Jura Holidays has been setup to provide potential visitors to the Isle of Jura a taste of what a holiday to this beautiful place would be like. It also offers information on the transportation options to get here, activities to pursue while on the island and details of a charming property to rent - Boiden Cottage. The Isle of Jura is the fourth largest of the Inner Hebrides with a population now less than 200 most of whom live on the east coast, principally in the village of Craighouse which houses all the main facilities such as the hotel with public and lounge bars, shop & post office, petrol station, village hall and the island's main employer - Jura Distillery which has it's own gift shop and caters for conducted tours. Jura is relatively little known or explored and the west coast almost entirely uninhabited. The landscape is dominated by the Paps of Jura - 3 conical humps of quartzite rising to over 2,500ft and these together with its other mountains, soaring cliffs and caves plus extensive sandy beaches and moors make it an inviting place for hill walkers, bird watchers, fishing enthusiasts and families alike. Besides these natural features there are standing stones, ancient burial grounds, deserted villages and iron-age forts. Jura is however perhaps best known for it's deer forest with upwards of 6000 Red Deer spread throughout the six estates on the island and these deer can often be photographed at close range as can the many Grey Seals on the rocky outcrops in most of the bays and inlets throughout the island. Jura Holidays are proud to present Boiden cottage, which is situated in the small village of Ardfarnel and has panoramic views towards the breath taking Paps and out across Loch na Mile and beyond to the Sound of Jura. This cottage has just recently been professional extended and refurbished to offer high quality accommodation for up to 6 people at an affordable price. Follow our link to Boiden Cottage for further details. |
